Dean Krause
Dean Krause is an Indiana mixed media jeweler who makes exceptional wearable kaleidoscope rings, earrings, and pendants.

He is making even more striking work today than he did when he began his kaleidoscope career in 1987. Miniature and wearable kaleidoscopes require specialized techniques including magnifying lenses, materials, and accommodations for heat and light.

Most of Krause’s jewelry uses the lost-wax casting method for the metal components with filigree and other decorative elements married with precious and semi-precious stones. Dean also carves interesting animal and other decorative figures to add to his work. His work is known for his capability of producing outstanding images and perfect balance of the piece so the kaleidoscope and other elements rest in perfect relation to each other even while being worn.

Featured in Cozy Baker’s Kaleidoscope Renaissance, along with other early artists, Dean has continued and improved his work every year since 1987. His work can be seen on pages 125-127 of The Kaleidoscope Collector’s Guide. Those who own his one-of-a-kind pieces live in many countries and treasure each piece.
