Sherry Moser has been a professional glass and kaleidoscopes artist since 1985
and is the owner of The Moser Studio. In 2000, a growing interest in jewelry
expanded the direction of work. Drawing from techniques learned from attending
many classes and workshops in glass fusing, lampworking, sandblasting and
metalsmithing, the jewelry is a compilation of many different inspirations,
concepts and techniques learned over the past twenty years. Glass offers Sherry
endless possibilities. Pieces are fused and slumped in a kiln, dichroic glass
is applied, shaped with glass saws, wet belt sanders and lapping wheels. Once
shaped, the piece is sandblasted to produce patterns and designs on the glass
surface and give the glass a luminous glowing finish. The glass is then set in
a sterling silver bezel.
A new direction for The Moser Studio is the use of a rose engine lather to create jewelry pieces. Rose engine work dates back to the 16th century in materials such as ivory, horn and wood. It became a common decoration for watch cases. Contemporary rose engine patterns are being done in Sherry’s studio with cast optical clear acrylic. Sherry will soon release The Rosetta Lights series created on a rose engine lathe made for The Moser Studio by an ornamental wood turner in Oregon. |
